About Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is a variation on classic massage therapy. Heated smooth, flat stones are placed on key points on the body. The massage therapist may also hold the stones and use them to massage certain areas of the body.

A modern-day Hot Stone Massage (also sometimes called Hot Rocks Massage) will usually consist of the therapist placing heated stones (usually basalt) of various shapes/sizes onto the client’s body

These stones are placed onto different points (chakras, energy points, sore muscles, etc), depending on the style of Hot Stone Massage or Stone Therapy.

About Essential Swedish Massage

Body massage originated in Sweden. Swedish body massage is the original massage technique involving a sequence of movements working superficially and deeper into the tissue layers. Movements such as effleurage work over the skin with the palm of the hand producing relaxation, whereas movements like petrissage work deeply. Petrissage movements such as wringing and kneading will help to relieve tension promoting deep relaxation in the tissues and muscles. As no two people are alike, the body massage sequence will be adapted to the client's needs.

Touch

Touch is another important aspect of the essential body massage. In the past ten years it has become increasingly more apparent that touch and touch deprivation are critical considerations for the health and happiness of human beings. Touch helps decrease stress and anxiety and the physiological and behavioural changes that accompany this decline in stress and anxiety result in more relaxed and attentive individuals.

We find ourselves in society that promotes minimal touch from the time we are children all the way through our adult years. While one may argue that adults need not be so concerned with growth and development, the factor of our general health and well being is definitely at stake. Our therapists can provide a critical form of touch that heals the skin and emotional stake.

Therapeutic benefits of touch:

  • Decreases stress and anxiety

  • Required for growth and development

  • Part of communication and learning

  • Comforts and reassures us

  • Reduces pain and boosts the immune system
